ADDING VIDEO TO YOUR PHOTO ALBUMS
Our family loves speaking in movie quotes, and we also have a long list of quotes from our own lives that only we ‘get’. I’ve been collecting these quotes and their origin stories for several years and I’ve finally started creating pages for an album. I can’t wait to finish it!
‘It wasn’t’ is a quote we use all the time, mainly when things aren’t quite going right. It came from a priceless video of my son, Tristan, at age 7, in the Bahamas after we took a wild ride on the banana boat in the open ocean. Tristan was NOT a fan. When I asked him on video if he thought the ride was fun, he replied, “It wasn’t.” His deadpan delivery and brutal honesty has kept us giggling and repeating the phrase for years.
I hadn’t originally planned to include videos or links to videos in the album, however, I’m helping my aging parents deal with increasingly confusing technology and thought maybe a QR code would be easier than trying to watch videos on their devices or computer. (I’ll let you know how that works out.) I’ve written out the story and then they have the option of scanning the code and being taken directly to the original video in my Forever account.
Because all my home videos are stored in my Forever account, I can easily share them via email or text with the click of a button. The person you are sharing with would need to keep up with that link to be able to revisit the photo/video. With a photo album, the quickest/easiest way to link directly to a file or video is to include a QR link. I know they’re not the prettiest, but you can now also add a logo or photo on top of your custom code to give it a personality boost!
QR Monkey
I use QR Code Monkey . It’s very straightforward: copy/paste your desired URL into the space indicated and click download PNG. Place the PNG in your album design. To use your code, simply hover your camera over the code and a link pops up. Click the link and you’re taken directly to the file! Easy peasy.
While you can use the QR Monkey free service for temporary codes, I advise to get a paid account. Free QR codes expire and would essentially be useless in your photo library or photo albums. It’s worth the membership fee to be able to include all your videos anytime and know that they will be accessible in the future.
The scrapbook page above is actually two pages using templates from @shannon_pages 52 Weekends Album Kit available here. Note: the QR code shown is simply a placeholder for the blog.
Let me know if you’ve used a QR code in your albums in the comments or DM me on Instagram @photoburrito.
